RE: Letter of Endorsement – World Food Day Event
It is with pleasure that I pledge my full support for the Food For Famine Society’s World Food Day Event on Tuesday, October 16th at the Langley Events Centre. This event will bring together over 1200 high school students from all over Langley and up to another 300 members of the public as well. This day is sanctioned by the United Nations and the purpose is to raise the level of awareness of the needs for food security and stability all over the world.
As Mayor of the City of Langley I have had the opportunity to develop a close relationship with the Food For Famine Society through its founder, Mrs. Maria Martini. Maria is a fantastic example of how one individual’s passion can make a difference. When I met Maria and learned of her vision for the Food For Famine Society I became very excited about both the vision for the organization and the potential to save many thousands of lives of acutely malnourished and starving children around the world. In my role as a Board Member with World Vision Canada, I helped to connect the Food For Famine Society and World Vision Canada in a partnership that is already saving lives.
The Food For Famine Society uses 100% of donations received to purchase Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF), a product proven to save the lives of children ages 6 months to five years suffering from Severe Acute Malnutrition within a couple weeks of beginning treatment. Food For Famine donates the RUTF to World Vision who in turn distributes it through its established relief and development network and programs. This ultimately ensures that the product is received by mothers who then feed it to their sick children. But the work doesn’t stop there. World Vision then continues to work in the communities to educate and implement further lifestyle improvements that will ensure a healthier lifestyle after these children are restored to health.
I am very aware of the challenges with malnutrition that we face globally. I have every confidence in Food For Famine’s integrity as an organization and the sincerity of their motivation and am delighted to support this initiative. I cannot think of a greater contribution to the world than saving the lives of our future generations.
I encourage you to join Maria and the Food For Famine team, myself and some fantastic speakers as we support World Food Day October 16th and share the Food For Famine vision with the students and community. I simply ask you to consider how you might provide support for this amazing event and engage with this very worthwhile organization. Thank you – I personally look forward to seeing you there.
